HISTORY
Imagination and ingenuity does not just happen; it takes patience and practice. With years of experience and creative know-how we have turned new and unusual ideas into feasible and fully functional concepts. For decades, RITTER has built its reputation by manufacturing quality pen parts for other renowned writing instrument manufactures. However since 1998, RITTER-PEN, became a separate and unique brand name, printing and assembling innovative and original writing instruments supplying exclusively to distributors of the advertising and promotional products industry.
September, 15 1928 Jacob Ritter founded this company specializing in the production of boxes; selling and manufacturing wooden boxes to the Opel automotive factory and the mineral water industry. The Great Depression of 1929 forced the company in 1932 to restructure and Ritter started processing thermoplastic boxes and cases for razors, powder and jewellery. During World War II radio parts and radar equipment was manufactured; and after...woodworking was re-established producing cabinets, chests and housings for televisions. During this time special attention was also devoted to the processing of modern day plastics manufacturing products such as buttons and cigarette holders.
Finally in 1948 Jacob and his son William began manufacturing pens and ink refills, which were shown in 1949 at the first major trade fairs, the Frankfurt Spring Fair and the Hannover Fair. Up to 1950 only pen housings had been produced but by 1956 the first ballpoint pen with plastic mechanisms came on the market where patents were filed in as many countries as possible.
The 60's were dominated by our expansion, buildings were constructed for mould injecting and tool making. 1972 marks the "Birth Year" of the legendary 280 pen. Here we set new standards in the writing industry; leading the way in the mid 70’s producing fine liners, roller balls and cartridges with corresponding designed housings.
Celebrating our 50th anniversary in 1978, a new administration building was completed. This was followed by continued expansion of warehouses and manufacturing facilities.
TRADITION AND INNOVATION
Arno Ritter, the current owner of RITTER-PEN continues to succeed with the family company and traditions. He relies on the creativity and commitment of its employees. For him it's comforting to know that all pull together and remain loyal and committed to make the Ritter name a success. Built over two-thirds of our area, leaving plenty of room for future expansion, the headquarters stands idyllic amongst 16,500 square meters of factory buildings and the flow of the Brensbach creek. RITTER-PEN still remains the largest employer of regional residents, employing more than 125 people.
While the company at home continues to be innovative in every aspect of design, product development and imprinting techniques, the company grows and continually reaches for outside markets. In 1998 we incorporated an office in Florida / USA, and our subsidiary in Poland has successfully shown profits since its beginning in 2000. In 2004, with strong opposition from our competitors, we founded a production company in China; lowering manufacturing cost and producing perfect pens for tradeshow give-aways gaining us the competitive edge with the Far East markets.
Although distribution of our product is strictly adhered by our promotional products trade regulations, we still like to advise our audience in choosing the appropriate writing instrument. This is done in close cooperation with the trade, who benefits from the experience of our team of experts. Creative sessions with clients are usually performed together; our purpose is to fulfil the buyer’s objectives and to exceed their expectations.

FLEXIBILITY & RELIABILITY

Performance is our specialty! Unique and reliable pens are created by collaborating internal and external design teams. Our in-house CAD department works in close proximity with the tool making department where art and science meet to adapt, modify and maximize our products fullest potential. From concept to reality our modern facility provides smooth development for product and ensures that deadlines are met.
To insure that our service and standards are light years ahead of our competitors we are constantly learning and training to stay on the cutting edge of the plastic moulding industry. Our tool department not only engineers but also serves as an education center training future artisans in the fields of plastic and rubber technology.
Our parts factory is equipped with 40 microprocessor controlled mould injection machines with a holding force of 25 to 220 tons. 2 modern, two-component injection moulding machines complete this work group. Ritter-Pen’s concept for unique pen products is the flexibility to customize each pen models. The ability to mix & match a vast selection of pen part colours leads to unlimited possibilities of colour combinations, therefore enormous production and warehousing of pen parts is needed.
We work with screen and pad printing machines and have a range of 1, 2, and 5-colour printing presses. We have invested significant amounts in the development and expansion in our printing department with specialty equipment such as digital transfer machines along with a modern facility for UV drying. When printing is completed we are fully staffed with local in-house assemblers that finish the order according to all the customers’ requirements.
Marketing strategies are supported with tools such as our catalogs showing colourful high resolution images, to enlighten quickly and clearly our classics and innovations. The Pen Builder on our web site creates virtual samples and instant proofs, a welcome service for saving time and money. Promotional pen kits and custom presentation products allows you to be ready to make a big impression. Our pen products are beautifully designed and aimed to instil a sense of pride and craftsmanship.
